YO MIKE WHATCHA LIKE?
Hi! βHey! Welcome!
This is a very simple newsletter, made to share the things I enjoy. I'm a 'very online' kinda guy, and I love to throw things at people and say 'hey look at this!' β so now I'm doing it in a newsletter. Be still your hearts!
βOkay, right, let's have a go at that.
πΊπΈ βAmerica is finally getting rid of pennies?! Yup, it's true. Australia dropped its 1- and 2-cent coins in the early 1990s, and now the US is coming along. The last penny (1 cent) was minted on November 13. I imagine it'll take years for most to leave circulation, of course. Trivia: Each US penny cost US 4 cents to make! Want more? Learn about the US penny on its wiki page.
Cool TV I guess?
βοΈ βββSamsung now has a 'tri-fold' phone. Yes, tri-fold phones only have two folds, but they're called that because they have three panes. π€·ββοΈ
Anyway, it looks cool and smells like the future, but I think this device is stupid β it doesn't have stylus support! What's the point of a table-sized phone I can't draw on?
At probably $4000 Aussie bucks (nearly $3000 USD), it's not much more than a bloody expensive youtube viewer.
πΏ Trailer: βWe Bury the Dead looks like a very cool 'rage zombie' flick in the style of 28 Days Later, but this one is filmed in Australia (and presumably set here, but they don't really say in the trailer) and has a strange 'military project gone wrong' aspect to the plot.
I don't really go in for horror films, but this does look good!
π§ βThe 'Infinity Rain Stick' is a beautiful, minimalist wooden device that makes the sound of rain as it tumbles in its little wooden dock. "Experience the calm of endless raindrops and reconnect with the calming essence of nature." It's probably going to be very expensive, but it's very nice.
Look at it! It's like being in Mario Kart!
π ββThe Antic e-bike looks like a very cool little electric 'monkey bike' in the spirit of classics like the PeeWee 50, but sadly it's unlikely to be available in Australia. All e-bikes here must have pedals, and this one don't!
π¨ Miniature-Calendar.com β Every day since 2011, Japanese creator Tatsuya Tanaka makes some incredible miniature sculpture from all sorts of materials, using food and figurines to build a little scene. You can go back through the calendar for each day's creation, or follow him on Instagram.
Oh, he also has a picture book called KuMitate. (Kumitate means construction, but Mitate alone means resemble, so it makes for clever wordplay: "Assemble and Resemble"!)
βMe: Yeah I'm a Janelle Monae fan, of course I am. She's incredible. Also me: Haha what she released a new album in 2023 and I completely missed it? Yeah that sounds like me. π
Janelle Monae's The Age of Pleasure (π Youtube) is a very hot album. Explicit, too, so keep that in mind before you tune in!

Okay, right, let's have a go at that. πΏ The original Star Wars cut is returning to cinemas! This is pretty big. In the '90s, George Lucas used new computer graphics to replace a lot of the original film's practical effects (models and puppets), and added...
