This is a very simple newsletter, made to share the things I enjoy. I'm a 'very online' kinda guy, and I love to throw things at people and say 'hey look at this!' โ so now I'm doing it in a newsletter.
โOkay, right, let's have a go at that.
๐ฟ The original Star Wars cut is returning to cinemas! This is pretty big. In the '90s, George Lucas used new computer graphics to replace a lot of the original film's practical effects (models and puppets), and added in a lot of computer-aided scenes that were originally cut because the effects weren't capable enough at the time.
But, worst of all, he blocked the original 1977 cut from ever being seen again. So... yeah, this is big!
๐ฎ Gaming: If you've got kids and a Nintendo Switch 2 (2!), and you're looking for a suitable game for the Christmas list, the new Mario Kart-like Kirby Air Riders looks like a winner.
๐ฟ Trailer: The 'Burbs. A remake of the 1989 Tom Hanks classic?? Come on. But okay, yeah, I'll probably give it a chance.
๐ Cars: The Honda NSX is already one of the most beautiful supercars of all time, but this reimagined 'restomod' โ basically an original NSX with a new exterior and a host of modernised bits underneath โ is simply gorgeous. Make a thousand of them!
๐ฒ A 'comeback guide' to anti-cyclist arguments. I'm both a motorist and a cyclist, and the hate for bicycle commuters is infuriating to me.
Every motorist should be telling their MPs that they want cyclists to have the infrastructure needed to keep them safe from harm, and keep motorists moving with one less 'obstacle'. It's a win-win!
๐ผ๏ธ Claire Ritchie's art gives me upbeat feels. The simplicity, the fun, the colours... so good! She did a packaging collab with the Thank You brand a while ago, and I've followed her work since then.
โก Renewables have overtaken fossil fuels in Australia! Very cool. I feel like it wasn't that long ago that renewable energy was considered too expensive, an unrealistic prospect to reach most Australians, and so on. This is great to see.
๐ Netflix is buying Warner Bros. Kinda wild to think that all those years ago, Blockbuster could've bought Netflix โ but instead, Blockbuster went out of business and now Netflix will own the most storied film studio around.
โ๐ฟ Trailer: I haven't watched any of the new House of the Dragon stuff, but this new GoT prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms looks terrific. I'll give it a go.
๐ง I absolutely love that instead of trying to get them to pay a proper amount of tax, the EU just keeps handing out fines to all the tech giants. This time it's US$140m ($210m AUD) for Elon's X.โ
๐ผ๏ธ This retro, minimalist print of Toad from Super Mario Bros could live in just about any house, I reckon. So, if you're like me โ a total nerd with a partner who's too design conscious for just any video game art โ this could be just the thing to satisfy you both!
